David WoodDavid Wood is one of the best-loved children’s dramatists in the United Kingdom. Born in 1944, Wood began writing while he was a student at Oxford University. He went on to write over 60 plays for children. He’s an award-winning author of fiction, plays, and screenplays. Some of his career highlights include Sidney the Monster, winner of the Nottinghamshire Children’s Book of the Year award; Tom’s Midnight Garden, winner of the Equity award for Best Show for Children and Young People; Spot’s Birthday Party, winner of the 2003 Distinguished Playwriting Award by the American Alliance of Theatre and Education; and Danny the Champion of the World, winner of 2007’s Distinguished Playwriting Award. Dick King-SmithMr. King-Smith was born March 27, 1922 in Gloucestershire, England. He served with the Grenadier Guards ad went to Italy to fight in World War II, but was injured and had to return home. After the war, he became a farmer and loved being on the farm and working with animals. After struggling with the business of farming, he also trained to be a teacher. After teaching for a few years in primary school before he realized he enjoyed writing. King-Smith wrote mostly about animals because that is what he knew best. His favorite animals were pigs. King-Smith’s books have sold more than fifteen million copies around the world and have won many awards. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 88.
